Homemade Pizza Sauce without Tomato Paste

  • Author: Donna Poirier
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 2 1/2 cups 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

What's fantastic about this sauce is that it is a no cook recipedoes not have tomato paste and is pretty close to the most authentic Italian pizza sauce recipe you'll ever make.

Ingredients

Scale

1 can (796 millilitres or 28 ounces), Mutti Finely Chopped Tomatoes (or equivalent)

1 teaspoon, kosher salt

1 teaspoon, dried oregano

3 fresh basil leaves, chopped

1 garlic clove, minced

2 tablespoons, extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

Combine Ingredients. Simply add all of your prepared ingredients to a medium bowl and give the whole thing a good stir. I told you it was easy!

Notes

  • If you are using a good quality tomato product there is no need to add sugar to the recipe as many recipes call for. Adding sugar would not be very authentic either in my opinion. Another win for this sauce as it has no added sugar!
  • Make sure the pizza sauce is room temperature before using on pizza dough. Cold sauce will shock the freshly risen dough and potentially interfere with the fluffy rise when baking.
